Interview with Chirath De Alwis

Could you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, I am Chirath De Alwis, a cybersecurity professional during the day and a proud father at night.

Currently working for AION Cybersecurity Pvt Ltd as a Technical Lead – Cybersecurity.

I completed my BEng (Hons) in Computer Networks and Security with a first class from Staffordshire University, United Kingdom. During my undergraduate level, I became the second runner-up in the Research Excellence Award. After completing that, I completed PgDip in IT specializing in cybersecurity from SLIIT, Sri Lanka and also completed MSc in IT specializing in cybersecurity with a distinction from SLIIT, Sri Lanka. I currently hold 22 professional certificates, 29 article publications and 2 research paper publications in various domains in cybersecurity. 

When considering my industry experience, I hold 9 years of experience in cybersecurity in various domains including vulnerability management, cyber threat intelligence, digital forensics, security operations and GRC in both local and multinational companies.  

I would like to identify myself as a person who loves doing research in the cybersecurity domain and also loves sharing my knowledge and research findings with the community for the betterment of the community. 

Would you please elaborate on your early years and how your dreams came true?

During my childhood, I had a passion for investigations. But I didn’t know the “Digital Forensics” domain. However, I was lucky to join TechCERT (Sri Lanka’s largest CERT) and there I got to know about this domain. Though I was keen on moving into....
