
What are the crucial points in digital evidence in relation to criminal investigations?

In our technology-driven world, digital forensic laboratories and examiners are using multiple systems to generate reports, document findings, and compile evidence - this can be overly complicated. In my personal experience, I investigated criminal cases with 20 or more mobile devices from different people in a single case. Managing that many devices is hectic to say the least, not to mention other devices that are still submitted in other cases as well.
I recently conducted research based on the use and applicability of cloud storage and services being utilized in the realm of digital evidence. In this research, I briefly touched on the use of Digital Evidence Management Solutions (DEMS), and the new market they’ve created in relation to Body Worn Camera (BWC) video storage and processing, but how can this apply to digital forensics? Currently, there is only one solution on the market that focuses and capitalizes on digital evidence management and electronic device forensics as a total solution.
New to the market is an offering from Cellebrite, their Guardian platform.
Cellebrite Guardian hosts a full suite of evidence management tools focusing on digital forensics and can build a digital evidence case file for electronic devices examined. Guardian integrates these forensic tools with its seamless collaboration with other parties such as investigators, prosecutors, and discovery compliance with the defense, all while providing a place to store digital evidence on a web-based portal.....
