Magnet Forensics, Magnet Axiom - A First Look

Introduction

Founded in 2010 by Jed Saliba and Adam Belsher, Magnet Forensics are leaders in the world of digital forensics, born out of a need for digital forensics tools for law enforcement agencies the world over. By 2016, Magnet Forensics was recognized as one of the top five hundred fastest-growing businesses in Canada (Canada business growth list). They would go on to achieve this status in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Magnet Forensics is proud of its “firm roots in law enforcement and government” (Magnet Forensics Story), providing digital investigation tools and software solutions to law enforcement, government, and private sector organisations the world over. 

“Magnet Axiom is purpose-built to recover, process, and analyze digital evidence from a variety of sources” (Magnet Forensics Axiom). Magnet Axiom allows examiners to recover data from a range of evidence sources including computer, cloud and mobile devices and investigate them all within a single case, whilst adopting an artifact-first approach, allowing examiners to potentially discover the entire history of discovered artifacts. Magnet Axiom comprises Magnet Axiom Process and Magnet Axiom Examine, and Magnet.AI is also incorporated into Magnet Axiom for examiners to take advantage of when analysing evidence.

This article aims to introduce readers to Magnet Axiom, how to process computer and mobile sources with Axiom Process, discuss the processing options Axiom provides as well as cover some of the more important features relevant to a forensic examination offered with Axiom Examine.
