OSINT Investigation on a Mobile App or Service

There are times when we may need to perform an OSINT investigation on a mobile app or service. While we can, for example, attempt an investigation on our own personal phone (not a good idea) or buy a burner phone, the overall functionality would be greatly limited. In this article, we will be looking at using an Android emulated phone on a computer to leverage both the mobile device side and still retain the ability to use a number of useful OSINT tools at the same time, along with some basic OSINT preparation for our mobile device investigation.

It is difficult to get around not tying a new account to an actual phone number. Unfortunately, nowadays, it's much tougher to get away with an online VOIP number to create a social media account. To this end, the best option is to buy a cheap pay-as-you-go SIM to create accounts with a real phone number. For example, we can buy a Mint Mobile SIM for $2 for 7 days. This allows us to create our various social media accounts. Be sure not to use your regular email or real name when creating your free trial account!
