For me, the course would be a self paced course so I could work it into my schedule, covering the major sections in detail with practice for each section and then a post guide study practice test(s) to review the material and determine which areas I need more work on. I am a Security Programmer Analyst for the State of Maine and would love to get my CISSP because it would allow me to move up within the department to section manager and maybe even Enterprise Security Officer.

For starters it would cover Proxy solutions – commercial and open source, Payload Reconstruction, Network Architectural Challenges and Opportunities, Acquisition methods such as network taps and black boxes, NetFlow Analysis and Collection, Visualization Techniques and Tools, HTTP Server Logs, Log Data Collection, Aggregation, and Analysis, and last but not least a thorough class on building a linux based black box for capturing PCAPS through a network tap. I think a class that covers these topics in depth would be very beneficial to the subscribers.

My dream course would by “Digital Forensics with Python” with a focus on data recovery and security scripts. I think this would be a great course because python is a powerful language and easier for non programmers to learn. Also from what I hear companies would benefit from the data recovery on ex-employee laptops and work stations.

Shon Harris had one of the best books for the previous CBK, sadly she passed away last year. Making the content critical, and also a timed race. The best quality product to hit the market will set the mark for the current and future CBK’s
Note: It’s also kind of sad how McGraw hill still tries to take advantage of her name and publishing the All in one 2015 CBK under her name as the author (see amazon). Which was supposed to be released MAy 1st but still is not… I’m skeptical about the book.

Eforensics is a specialized information source with which I learned a lot from the perspective of a professional CISO to a more in-depth approach, the topics are very good and highly recommended.
